Born out of need, this Hurricane Katrina recovery center was established out of a strong desire and commitment to help. New Orleans has been blessed by the outpouring of love and labor from the entire country and we put that love and labor to work helping residents, churches and other community groups recover from Katrina.
As an Episcopal priest said, we are a "Boots on the Ground" organization.
How Do we Help ?
Although needs are similar, each person may have their own unique needs and issues. The first thing we do is talk with and/or visit the resident, and see what has to be done, both for the home and for the homeowner. Even after only one meeting with us, most people feel strengthened and gain hope and a much more positive attitude. Then we match up their needs with our resources. Sometimes we refer the homeowner, resident or organization to other Hurricane Katrina recovery resources, and/or to government agencies.
We can help with:
- Volunteer Labor
- Personal Assistance
